Paranormal Romance

Review: Wanderers: Ragnarök (Wanderers #1) by Richard A Bamberg

My ReviewsI want a manticore-possessed Harley!

This is the first book in the Wanderers Series. This is a continuing story line and characters, so even though it is not a cliffhanger at the end, there is also no HEA either.

♥ Story ♥
This story’s mythology is based around Norse traditions of the deities claiming fallen warriors as their champions. Most people are only familiar with the Valkyries, but just like the Greeks there were many deities to pray to that all came with their own entourages.

That’s where Rafe finds himself, as the minion of the Fate Verðandi. Who I have to say is pretty bad leading her Wanderers. Rafe has gone over 5 years without any contact or messages from her. As a Wanderer, he is to keep the status quo of good and evil by destroying demons that are causing havoc and disturbing this balance.

Rafe has been alone since his mentor was killed so is not in tune with the danger that is coming his way. Someone is trying to set in to motion the events that will lead to Ragnarök. For those that are not aware of what that is, it is the Norse equivalent of the end of days. It’s the final battle for the right to rule the world.

Needless to say, this is a bad thing. In trying to stop the first step in the end of the world Rafe has his trusted familiar Beast, that is a manticore who most often is in the form of a Harley, which makes for some humorous scenes. He has to team up with some overly horny witches, seriously they will not leave the dude alone, to try and prevent the first essentially “seal” from being broken.

The mythology is solid, and there is a lot of action, but I feel like this title suffers from first-book-itus. Too much info dumped over too long of a time, pulled the story down with it. It’s still a good start to a series and I’m looking forward to the next one.

This is my first read/listen by Richard A Bamberg and I think it’s a great start. Very creative world building. I’m very curious to see what book 2 brings.

♥ Narrator(s) ♥
Johnny Mack is great as always. I have listened to him in other books and he just has that perfect amount of gruff to his voice that can be both charming and sultry in the same book.

Review: The Dreaming (Sensual Fairy Stories #2) by Regan Bayle

My Reviews

Sexy & Sultry Sleeping Beauty

Hot take on an old tale!

This is my first read of the Sensual Fairy Stories Series, but it is book 2. This seems like it could completely stand alone, but I cannot say for certain as I have not read #1.

♥ Story ♥
Prince Landon needs to beat his brothers to a bride. He goes to a Fae woman to see about one of the “special” case princesses. Hoping for an easy score, he goes with the one that seems like the least amount of work. He chooses Princess Aurelle who has been trapped in a sleeping curse. Worried about what he might actually be getting, the Fae woman gives him a snow globe that will allow him to enter her world in his dreams.
Cue David Bowie music from Labyrinth! 🙂

Aurelle is essentially a 90 year old virgin, who hasn’t been able to even have a proper sex dream. When Landon shows up, she doesn’t think it is going to go anywhere like all the other attempts on her part to create a prince, so she throws herself at him without abandon.

Their sexual chemistry is excellent, but they do have a small problem. To release her from her curse he has to do so in person.

This is short read/listen but had all the good parts! The characters where likeable and the story plausible, for a sexy fairy tale. I could of used a few more sentences at the end to wrap it up a bit more, but it’s still a good story either way.

♥ Author ♥
This is my first read by Regan Bayle, and I will definitely be listening to more. There are only 2 titles currently available in audio format, so hopefully she has plans to bring the rest of the series to Audible.

♥ Narrator(s) ♥
Lia Langola did well narrating. She gave the story momentum, keeping you enthralled for the ride.

Review: Beneath The Lake by Casi McLean

My ReviewsLove can defy time!

Time travel stories can go wrong so easy, and I’m so glad this one went so right! If time travel sounds daunting to you, just pay attention to the time and date when it is given and you will be just fine. I’m a big fan of Doctor Who so the concept of multiple timelines doesn’t phase me.

The story was well written and heartfelt. The steam factor is light for those that do not like those sorts of stories. This story takes place around Lake Lanier, Georgia, which I have lived not too far from at one point in time. I never knew that much detail about it other than it was a man-made lake so of course I had to immediately do some of my own research. The “Lake” in Beneath The Lake is of great importance and in a way its own character. Without it, there would be no story. I wouldn’t say it is the main focus of the story, as I feel that the true point is love and how it sometimes takes us the long way around.

The story has multiple time lines running concurrently but all of them seem to in one way or another focus around Miss Lacey Madison Montgomery. She goes by many version of this name depending on who she is conversing with. She finds her boyfriend in a compromising position at the beginning of the book which becomes the catalyst for her late night ride into the storm that changes her life forever.

Its really hard to talk about this story without giving anything away, but I can say it’s so good I want to read it again. I want to listen to from the beginning for a completely different experience. It makes me want to do 2 read alongs on my website to this story. One as a new reader experiencing the mystery and a second read to experience the emotions that are sure to come.

This is my first read/listen by Casi McLean and I want more. She wove an excellent story of love and endurance that I could not stop listening to.

Aundrea Mitchell does an excellent job on all levels of story narration. The story telling has levels of expression that makes it more than just the details of the story. The character voices both male and female are distinct and well done and there are a lot of both throughout this story.

This gets 5 time bending hearts out of 5 from me and recommended to anyone who loves a good romantic read with a stellar HEA.

I plan to feature this story as a Read Along With Me story, so be sure to check back soon!

Review: Ruby and the Beast by Ditter Kellen

My Reviews
Great modern day retelling of Beauty & the Beast!

I’ve always loved Beauty & the Beast, and find it hard to pass up a retelling of it. This modern take on my favorite classic, has the supernatural elements we are familiar with mixed into the real life scenarios of New Orleans.

Lincoln, aka The Beast, was cursed in the womb by an angry witch practicing black magic voodoo. I was very angry at this because he was being punished for the sins of his father, so not fair! He really wants to break his curse but feels revenge will be his only solace.

Ruby, aka Beauty, finds her family’s secrets run darker than she ever suspected. Her issues keep piling up until she is forced to make a deal with the devil in an effort to not lose all she holds dear.

There is a riddle, a rose, and furry hunky goodness, oh my! If you like Beauty and the Beast, you will not be disappointed.

This is my first read by Ditter Kellen, and I want more! I love the writing with the twists and turns, and the secondary characters and a wolf named Satan are super adorable. I look forward to reading more titles by this author.

Johnny Mack Does a fantastic job narrating this story. There are many characters that span many ages and he pulls it off with relish! Everyone has a distinct voice and it’s easy to get lost in the story. Sadly my favorite is only used a small amount in the end. Transformed Lincoln sounds HOT!

5 of 5 stars!

Review: Her Purrfect Match by Milly Taiden

My Reviews

I love this Series!

I have listened to most of this series, and I have to say I love it! So I am revising my old reviews as I get ready to add it to my blog’s read a long with me. Find it Here

I originally rated this a 4, but I have to bump it up to 5, because I truly love this series!

The narrator initially bugged me a little because her female characters all tended to sound winey in pitch, but after a while, you don’t really notice as much. You just get used to it. I want to say that Lauren Sweet narrates everything Milly Taiden writes. I own a lot of her stuff, so she is like a member of my family I hear her so much. Her general reading voice is good for the non-character parts.
This is a short read like a novella. Most of the reviews mentioned this was a short read, so I went in thinking of it as a short read. Some might feel disappointed in the length, but it has all the parts it needs to make the story great. Sometimes I prefer a short read because it gets straight to the point and more importantly straight to the sex.

This is book #3 in the Paranormal Dating Agency series. Although these are all connected they can easily be read as a stand-alones. Each new book either the lady looking for love or the shifter she is being set up with knows the people from the last book in some form or fashion. In this book Talia Barca aka Tally from book #1 is in it at the beginning as friend to the main character Lyss. She is introducing Lyss to the Gerri Wilder who is the match making genius and owner of the Paranormal Dating Agency. The couple from book #2 are referenced indirectly but none of them being mentioned by name.

Gerri Wilder is the definitive connection for all the books! She is a shifter herself, and might as well be ageless. She has many tricks up her sleeve as well as some strange magic, so heaven only knows how old that lady really is. Gerri has a gift for knowing a person’s mate. She is pretty secretive as to the extent of her gift, but I’m fairly sure she sees and knows way more than she will ever tell. It’s one of those things where you wonder if it was really an accident or a coincidence or was is a Gerridence? lol

This book finds Alyssa Moran [AKA] Lyss tired of dating losers but determined not to end up being a lonely cat lady. She wants love and kids and willing to try dating out of her species if Gerri can make it happen for her. Lyss has to travel out of town to meet her shifter date so Gerri makes arrangements for the weekend. After major car trouble along the way she is literally run in to by her potential suitor although I don’t know if Lyss ever realizes it. Grayson Green knows he wants her the moment he sets eyes on her but doesn’t know his loyal guards have set this whole meeting in motion. Gray is a Tiger shifter who does not believe in love but who needs a mate and some cubs ASAP to keep from having to battle for his position as the pride leader.

The physical chemistry between these 2 is electric and steamy with lots of sex and even when they are not having sex there is lots of talking about the sex they plan to have later. I do have to say though for a man that is desperate need of cubs, he seems to be a bit too preoccupied with anal sex. I guess he doesn’t know how babies are made.

These books are BBW in nature. I did not select them for that characteristic nor do I read that genre specifically either. I am familiar with what reviewers have slammed some books for in this genre and feel that these books should meet with one’s needs if they do like this category of fiction.

I personally just love paranormal romance series and a good deal on price as I am a massive consumer. Although these books focus on larger ladies with curves, they do not belittle others that are not of the curvy variety, which I have unfortunately seen before. These books encourage being happy with what you got and not letting others tell you that you deserve crap relationships because you are not what they would deem as the ideal body type.

I got this through Amazon and Audible by using my Kindle Unlimited account to get the ebook for free and then the audio through Audible for the discounted price for having the ebook. It is a great way to go if you want to get some good deals on audiobooks.
