Review: A Witch’s Concern (Witch for Hire #4) by N.E. Conneely

My Reviews

Absolute Power Might Not Corrupt Absolutely, But It Is Addictive!

A Witch’s Concern is #4 in the Witch for Hire Series by N.E. Conneely.

Jeff Hays and Laurie Catherine Winkel narrates.

This has multiple POVs, but it is a continuing story arc revolving around One Main Character! HFN endings with no BIG cliffhangers, but there ARE open issues.
I would advise to read these in order to get the most out of the experience.

Length: 7 hrs and 25 mins

Content Warning: Still PG in terms of steam.

♥ Story ♥

A lot of things were tied up in the Witch’s Path Box Set, but now the big picture issues are manifesting. Michelle and Elron can at least lean on each other for their PTSD issues. Plus, there is a wedding, eventually! The ebook counterpart is available through the Kindle Unlimited program.

“It’s a pleasure to have you here to witness the union between Nancy Gretchen Oaks, outcast, and Greg Patrick Nelson of the Docga. As the lot of you have had twenty years to protest this union, any complaints you have now should be kept to yourselves.”
— Nana

It is eluded that there may of been a small breather, but this starts out crazy and doesn’t let up. Sylvia’s warning of more demons to come was a serious one, but no one truly knows when or where. Varro’s knowledge and the Tree’s gift are not things to be ignored, but Michelle’s stubborn butt is determined to do so. I yelled at her so much during this book because she should know better by now! Seriously!

A lot of characters are total Twat Bags, but they made the loyal ones shine even more. Amber, Nana, and Elron are the best and need an award, or a cake!

Gretchen, This Throat Punch is for you!

Its all self fulfilling prophecies. They all bring it onto themselves, and most get their due. The ending opens up a whole new can of hot mess and that is not even including the impending Demon problem. I am sure there is more crazy to come in the future! My fingers crossed for a Michelle and Elron wedding, but I’m not holding my breathe.

Jeff Hays and Laurie Catherine Winkel narrate. This is a true Duet so all the characters are the same voice all the time no matter who’s POV the chapter is focused on. It’s the BEST way!

Jeff Hays continues to voice all the guys, Yay! He is still amazeballs, but he is getting a partner in crime this time around, and it is only getting better!

Laurie Catherine Winkel does all the girls and perfectly complements Jeff. They make an awesome duet team!

Review: Acceptable Risk (Chattanooga Supernaturals #3) By Candace Blevins

My ReviewsA Woman + A Hot Leopard + 2 Sexy Wolves = Yum!

Acceptable Risk is #3 in the Chattanooga Supernaturals Series
by Candace Blevins.

Noah Michael Levine narrates.

HEA, NO cheating, no cliffhangers!

This could be taken as a standalones, but they are connected by characters. I always advise to read in order to get the most out of the experience.

Length: 2 hours and 57 minutes

Content Warning: This is a Reverse Harem. SEX! Lots! And it gets kinky! So if you do not like that sort of stuff, then you should avoid.

♥ Story ♥

This is a True Reverse Harem. All the men are there to please Bethany. They do not have sex with each other. Acceptable Risk features characters from previous books in this series as well as those from both the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club Series and the Safeword Series.

Bethany wants a harem like her friend Cassie, but just for right now. This girl has some relatioship issue! Mac, Jonathan, and Ranger are the men that are willing to extend that offer to our heroine. They have some issues of their own. The biggest being that they are supernaturals! Bethany freaks out more over the “mine” thing than the “furry” thing.

This is a short listen with a LOT of steam, but manages to have a lot of heart too! I like how caring the guys were. They were willing to talk Bethany through everything. That right there is the biggest fantasy part of the whole story !

Bethany has joked for years that if she ever settles down, it’ll be with a harem of men, only it isn’t a joke anymore.

Mac is a new werewolf, and still must be watched at every moment to be sure he stays in control. His kink has always been ménage, so when he overhears the beautiful redhead at the bar wanting to take on not only him, but also the werewolf and wereleopard chaperoning his night out… he has to convince them to let him take her home. He might not be trustworthy with a human woman alone, yet, but with two powerful shapeshifters in bed with them, what could go wrong?

Previously published in the Every Which Way Anthology.

Candace Blevins has published more than thirty books. She lives with her husband of twenty years and their two daughters. When not working or driving young teens all over the place, she can be found reading, writing, meditating, or swimming. The family’s beloved, goofy, retired racing greyhound is usually at her side as she writes, quietly keeping her company.

Candace writes Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Contemporary BDSM Romance, and a kick-ass Motorcycle Club series.

Her urban fantasy series, Only Human, gives us a world where weredragons, werewolves, werelions, three different species of vampires, and a variety of other mythological beings exist.

Candace’s two paranormal romance series, The Chattanooga Supernaturals and The Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club, are both sister series to the Only Human series, and give some secondary characters their happily ever after.

Her contemporary Safeword series gives us characters who happen to have some extreme kinks. Relationships can be difficult enough without throwing power exchange into the mix, and her books show characters who care enough about each other to fight to make the relationship work. Each couple in the Safeword series gives the reader a different take on the lifestyle.

Q&A with Author Candace Blevins
  • Was a possible audiobook recording something you were conscious of while writing?
    • Not at all. I wrote this for an anthology years ago, and published it as a novella when the rights returned to me. It’s a nice entry into both my Chattanooga Supernaturals series and my Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club series, so it seemed the perfect choice for my first foray into audio. When I eventually look for narrators for Only Human, my urban fantasy series, I’m going to want a male and female working in tandem, but for my first venture, I thought I should keep it as simple as possible.
  • How did you select your narrator?
    • I have the most awesome reader group ever (Candace’s Kinksters, feel free to look us up on Facebook and come play with us!), and I asked them to tell me their favorite narrators. I listened to the top ten men they listed (with three men and one woman in the menage, it seemed logical to hire a man), and I loved Noah Michael Levine’s voice.
  • How closely did you work with your narrator before and during the recording process? Did you give them any pronunciation tips or special insight into the characters?
    • Noah is a dream to work with. I told him where each character was from, a little about their personalities, and how I envisioned they sounded. It was important we didn’t get a caricature of a southern accent for Jonathan and Bethany, and I think he did a great job.
  • How do you manage to avoid burn-out? What do you do to maintain your enthusiasm for writing?
    • I have so many stories in my head, and I write in several different genres, so burnout isn’t a problem for me. My bikers let me play with antiheroes, my urban fantasy series lets me move away from romance, and my dark series lets me get down and dirty. And of course, I have some romance series where I can let people find their happily ever after. Also, if I tire of writing werewolves, I can switch to vampires, or lions, or even ravens or grizzly bears.
  • Is there a particular part of this story that you feel is more resonating in the audiobook performance than in the book format?
    • Noah Michael Levine’s voice is melt-in-your panties good, especially when he goes all Dom as Ranger. Yummm.
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • I don’t see it that way at all. Some people learn by seeing, others by hearing. It only makes sense that the auditory crowd would prefer to listen rather than look. All the words are the same — it’s the same book, no matter which format you choose.
  • In your opinion, what are the pros and cons of writing a stand-alone novel vs. writing a series?
    • I’ve only written one stand-alone, and it’s currently banned on Amazon. My publisher is fighting it, but in the meantime, you can find Absolute Power Exchange at Kobo, Apple, Smashwords, BN, and other vendors. The con, obviously, is that once I was done with the couple, I’ll never have an opportunity to visit them again. In a series, I love revisiting couples after their book’s complete, seeing them through the eyes of others, and watching them live out their happily ever after. On the pro side, it was so much easier to write a book without having to constantly stay on top of how the events I was writing would impact the timeline of the rest of the series, or to make sure I stayed true to the rules and personalities of characters from other books. I have four series in one universe, and while I love being able to swap characters around, it takes a lot to keep everything straight.
  • What’s next for you?
    • The eleventh book in my motorcycle club series just released, and I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with readers.I’ve been working on an epic Faerie story on and off for over five years, and last year I put it on Radish, so I was kind of forced to finish it since I had to write to keep up with the chapter releases. It’s currently going under massive revisions, and will be released as four books, titled Slave, Lady, Consort, and Queen. I don’t have release dates yet, but I’m hoping to be able to release each book a month apart.

Audiobookworm Blog Tour: Starblind Series, Book #3

Author: D.T. Dyllin

Narrator: Ashley Holt

Length: 6 hours 59 minutes

Series: Starblind, Book 3

Publisher: Tik Tok Press

Released: Dec. 20, 2017

Genre: Romantic Science Fiction

Taken captive, experimented on, and rescued by a mysterious bounty hunter…all things Zula, The Pittsburgh’s second-in command, didn’t have on her to-do list. She isn’t worried though. After all, as a Galvraron, she has her superior logic to rely on. At least she did….

Suddenly Zula finds her cognitive skills compromised by a device that puts her emotions in control, turning her entire world upside down. Add in the fact that she’s forced to spend time with a man from her past, and soon Zula finds herself wondering: How does one fight adversaries such as love and lust? And does she really want to?

D.T. Dyllin is a bestselling author who writes paranormal, sci-fi, and contemporary romance. Basically, anything with a love story is her kryptonite. Her obsession with affairs-of-the-heart is what first drove her to begin twisting her own tales of scorching romance.

D.T. was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Black & Gold for life, baby!) She now lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband, and two spoiled German Shepherds.

Q&A with Narrator Ashley Holt
  • Do you read reviews for your audiobooks?
    • Yes, and my husband wishes I wouldn’t. 😉 People either love me or hate me. Years ago, an actor friend once told me that you shouldn’t read reviews, because you might start to change your style based on what you read. Wise words, I think.
  • If so, which ones stand out to you most, positive or negative?
    • When people get what I’m trying to do with the character. Someone said about Starblind that they “loved Jane’s sass and snark”. Made my day! Um, negative? Do we really have to go there? I’ve had someone say I never should have been chosen for that book. Another time I had someone get angry at me because the author anthropomorphized animals. That just killed me, because I LOVED voicing those kittens. They were all boy cats, and I could have done it all day!
  • What type of the review comments do you find most constructive?
    • Things like “she spoke too quickly”. That means the listener isn’t getting everything I say! Also I found out that a lot of people listen at 1.5x speed. Again thats the radio voice creeping in. Radio is fast, because you have to hit certain marks at exactly the right time.
  • Who is your “dream author” that you would like to record for?
    • Not dream author as much as dream GENRE. LitRPG is fantastic. It combines many of my favorite things. (I was an onlinegamer long before women were accepted in that world)
  • If you could narrate one book from your youth what would it be and why?
    • Dickens, Dickens, Dickens.
  • What do you say to those who view listening to audiobooks as “cheating” or as inferior to “real reading”?
    • Here have your dope slap.
  • What bits of advice would you give to aspiring audiobook narrators?
    • Be patient, don’t be afraid to ask for advice, be very careful about who you hire as a coach.
  • What’s next for you?
    • I am currently working on: Book 4 of the Starblind series!!!A revision of a BDSM Best Seller I did a year ago.A fictional history of Maria Luisa of Spain, wife to Leopold II, Holy Roman EmperorA university textbook about an American woman who settled in Palestine in the 19th centuryMain Street, by Sinclair Lewis (my first classic I am SO EXCITED)A firefighter romance. I jokingly call it book 3 of the triumvirate. Because I have already done the sports romance (my life was VERY meta during that book) and the cop romance.2 very dystopian novels, one by an Australian author that is BRILLIANT. The second one is by an Italian author, and I haven’t gotten too far into it, but the premise is great and the translation is excellent. An Encyclopedia of musical terms.
  • Bonus question: Any funny anecdotes from inside the recording studio?
    • Not so much from the studio, but its still funny. For a while, I kept getting sent auditions/books with lesbian lead characters. I was the go-to apparently. Coach says its the resonance in my voice. I did 19 short books about a lesbian dominiatrix, in addition to a couple of other full length books. After a while, my husband started to get shall we say, CONCERNED, which just cracked me up.
    • Mostly the in studio stuff are the “derps” we have. In the narrators group on Facebook, we have threads of the day where we post phrases that are tripping us up. Those can get pretty funny.

Review: Flux (Starblind, #3) by D.T. Dyllin

My ReviewsThe Best So Far! Love Zula And Cade!

Flux is #03 of 04 in Starblind Series by D.T. Dyllin. All 4 are currently published with 3 of them being on Audio. The author has confirmed that #4 is the final book in the series and is in audio production to be on Audible soon.

Ashley Holt narrates the series.

HEA with no cliffhanger!

This series is only 4 books long and is heavily connected by characters and overall story arc so I recommend reading the books in order. It is not only more enjoyable that way, but you will miss out on a lot of details if you read them out of order.

Length: 6 hrs and 58 mins

Content Warning:
Sex both in thoughts and actions, so if you do not like sex, then you should avoid.

♥ Story ♥

Zula ❤ Kade

Flux picks up with Zula’s captivity. You find out what the kidnappers did to her, how she got away, and what happened in the interim.

This was a fun listen! A nice turn of story after the intensity and feels of book #2. I think it’s the best so far!

Zula

Zula is a Galvraron. A humanoid species with blue skin and blonde hair. This appearance is what spawns the human culture obsessed Jane to nickname her Smurfette! As you could guess, she hates it! She is second in command on The Pittsburgh and usually the levelheaded one, however, her encounter with a new piece of tech sends that to hell in a hand-basket!

Letting her emotions loose, turns Zula into Jane, and it is a fun ride. We get to learn more about her life, why she left on The Pittsburgh, and who she is actually related to. Kade is a good counter balance to Zula’s overly logical mind.

Kade

Kade is a mercenary, sent by Zula’s parents to bring her home. He has his own secrets and ties to her family. They are good too! To say any more would be spoilers, so if you want to get details, please see my Read Along for it.

The Starblind series just keeps getting better! The plot thickens as we head into the final book! Nina is the heroine of that story and it is set into motion toward the end of Flux by Jane. I’m excited to listen to it when it hits audio soon, but sad that this series will be over. I don’t know how its all going to go down, but I just know it is going to be epic!
