Review: Running Hot (Hell Ryders MC, #2) by J.L. Sheppard

A Protective Biker And The Love Of His Life.

Running Hot is #02 in the Hell Ryders MC Series

by J.L. Sheppard.

Dawson McBride narrates.

HEA with No cliffhangers!

This could probably be read as a standalone, but why would you?
It’s always, more fun in order! 😘

Length: 10 hrs and 23 mins

Content Advisory: There is sex, dirty talk, and cussing.
And as Cuss points out himself, “They are bikers”
OW/OM drama possible. (see below)

Motorcycles + Hot Alpha Male + Unrequited Love

Running Hot is the second in this MC Romance series, however, it technically starts many years before and carries through events of book #01. Cuss and Tiff have been skirting around their attraction for one another since they met in grade school. There are many situations and circumstances that bring them together as well as push them apart. Both have the courage to challenge the roles society dictates, but lack confidence to believe in their self worth.

They are walking, talking oxymorons!

One still might find issue with the other man/women drama, even taking all these factors into account. . I found it to be more a part of the plot that carries the story forward rather than a blight on their character, but all might not agree.

Thomas “Cuss” Layne grew up on the proverbial Opposite Side of the Tracks. He knew the heroine was his the moment he first sees her, and makes it his mission to always watch out for her, despite feeling unworthy. He even does jail time over it.

Tiffany “Tiff” Hamilton was several grades below Cuss, and from a family of social climbers who put money and status above all else. Going as far as to turn a blind eye to attempted rape because the male in question was from a family of influence in their superficial lives. These same poor excuses for parents don’t have a problem calling on Cuss to be their muscle to get Tiff out of difficult situations. Only to turn around and practically spit on him as less than and unworthy of their presence. They disgusted me, and make me nauseous just mentioning them!

There is a lot of action outside the two main characters relationship, as you get pre-book one drama, the drama of book one, the things that go down in this book, plus a lot of set-up for book 3. There is still a lot of ups and downs angst for those that like the feels roller coasters. The constant poor or sheer lack of communication was a bit much for me, but to each their own. I loved Cuss in the first one, so I think I was just expecting more from him. There are currently still 2 more Hell Ryders stories out in audio to go, Dodge and Ripper. I look forward to the listens yet to come. I still really want to hear a Ty and Tina book. 🤞

J.L. Sheppard writes a good M.C. story. The secondary characters are the best.

This is my first listen by Dawson McBride. His gravely voice really works for a gritty M.C. series.

I listened @ 1.15 speed.
Original speed seemed too slow to me. Don’t be afraid to experiment.

Review: How to Handle a Heartbreaker by Marie Harte

Lots More Feels Than The Last

How to Handle a Heartbreaker is #02 in the McCauley Brothers Series by Marie Harte.

Anne Gray narrates.

HEA with a continuing story line.

I recommend reading these in order, because if you listen to one out of order, you will want to go back and start from the beginning anyway. There are 4 brothers, 3 neighbors, and a bonus heroine with tattoos. They are all so intertwined that its practically impossible to separate them.

Length: 10 hrs and 38 mins

Content Advisory:
Steam factor on this one is , including lots of dirty talk and sexting! And despite efforts to not curse in front of the kid, there is still lots of cursing. 🤷

At the time of this posting, this Audiobook is currently available as part of Audible Escape.

This is #2 in the series, and we finally get our introduction to the mystery heroine, Del. Now that everyone is present, we get to dive in to Flynn’s “honorary” twin, Brody!

There are lots of feels in this one for those that crave it. If you started with book #1 then you should be expecting it, this is Brody’s story. Even though they practically raised him, he is not a McCauley by blood. I knew there was an unhappy story in his past coming and boy did it hit me right there.

And if that’s not enough for you, they threw in some bonus feels for good measure!

The Hero and Heroine of this story, Brody (Singer) McCauley and Abby Dunn met in book one and have both had an interest in the other since the beginning . Abby likes to ease drop on the boys while they play poker for her research and Brody likes to make sure the window is open while they play so he can drop hints to the ears he knows are listening. These 2 have a lot more in common than they realize. They both hide the truth of who they truly are, fearing the judgment and shame. I have to stop there and let the details of it unfold for you as intended. ….Sorry.

Now just because there are more heart strings pulled than normal doesn’t mean it skimped on the heat. No sir! It was super steamy, as Abby needed to do a lot of research😉, and Brody was more than happy to work with her on that project.

E-Book Sample

Throughout the book, it is hinted that all is not harmonious in the McCauley family. I was hoping it was just discontent over an empty nest, but sadly I don’t think that is going to be the case. ☹ The epilogue leads one to believe we will get the answers in the next book. We also get a hint of what’s to come with Vanessa and Cameron

➖ Mutt & Colin still steal the show! ➖

There are many outlets where you can find this title at so you will have a lot of options.

Marie Harte’s characters still entertain. She could of eased up on the feels. I still want to listen to the rest of the series.

Anne Gray’s voice was pleasant and flowed well. Helps to have the ebook if you are struggling with “who’s talking” in the larger scenes. You can find it through your local library for free.

Review: Surrender Sweet Succubus

A Lot of Heart to Go with the Steam.

Surrender Sweet Succubus is a standalone, by Jewel Quinlan.

P.J. Ochlan narrates.

HEA, NO cheating, NO cliffhangers!

Length: 2 hrs and 15 mins

Content Warning: Sex: YES!

This title is currently available through Audible Escape.

Quite a touching little story for a short erotic title.

Stephen is a doctor with some bonus gifts. He is a shaman and according to him, has seem some sh*t. His brother and sister-n-law are desperate for a baby and are hoping there may be some “other” way of help. Stephen goes in search of a Succubus that has the “magic touch” he is looking for and gets far more than he ever thought he needed. It’s only a couple hours long, but still had a good bit of character and world building that made it seem much longer. An epilogue of their future would of been nice, but that’s just my romantic heart talking. 😊

Jewel Quinlan is new to me but not for long. I really liked this story and plan to check out her other Audible Escape titles.

P.J. Ochlan is not completely new to me, but I have only heard him once before. Just as the time before, he didn’t disappoint. Very few characters, but each had an unique voice which was a delight to my ears. The accents were varied and sounded authentic.

**Note: Names with 2 initials work wonky in search results. You can get 3+ separate results so if you are not finding what you are looking for, adjust your spaces and/or periods. The proper library way of it should be, P.J. Ochlan, but you can also try P. J. Ochlan, & PJ Ochlan.

Review: The Troublemaker Next Door by Marie Harte

5 Googley Eyed Frogs out of 5!

The Troublemaker Next Door is #01 in the McCauley Brothers Series by Marie Harte.

Anne Gray narrates.

HEA with a continuing storyline.

I recommend reading these in order, because if you listen to one out of order, you will want to go back and start from the beginning anyway. There are 4 brothers, 3 neighbors, and a bonus heroine with tattoos. They are all so intertwined that its practically impossible to separate them.

This is the first in the series, but with the exception of a mystery heroine, all players are introduced in this book. The 3 heroines are renting a house from the 4 hero’s parents, which also happens to be next door neighbors to Mike (Hero #4) and his son. 😉

We start with Flynnnot Rider McCauley and Maddie Gardner.

Seriously, I can’t help but see this when I hear his character:

Flynn and his brothers own/run a remodeling/refurbishing business, ⁉, from what I can tell. I’m still not quite clear what the company is, but it didn’t distract from the story. They all have their own area of interests which is the most important thing here. Flynn is the Plumber, which is how he first meets the neighbors. He gets to see Maddie’s fiery temper in all its glory, and he is entranced.

Maddie Gardner is a slightly delusional, determined dreamer. Watching her mother struggle as a young single parent has really done a number to her mind. Now the constant wining to take no charity made me want to slap her, shake her, or angrily hug her. I can understand some of her proclivities, but others are just down right stupid. Accepting discounts or referrals is not charity, it’s helping hands.

The epilogue is mostly a set-up for book #2, Brody and Abby. Some may not like that, but it was ok to me since this series is a continuing story line and each leads right into the next.

Overall this hits all the marks. Hot sex, ✔check, naughty dirty talk, ✔check, clever banter, ✔check, witty humor, ✔check. Plus the secondary characters were fantastic. Mike’s son Colin truly steals the show.

There are many outlets where you can find this title at so you will have a lot of options.

Marie Harte has created some great characters. The world building is informative without being overwhelming. This is my first by her and I hope to listen to the rest of the series.

This was also my first listen by Anne Gray. She had a pleasant voice that flowed well. Characters were easier to tell apart when the group was all same gender, but I struggled to do so when in mixed company. Helps to have the ebook if you are struggling with the larger scenes. You can find it through your local library for free.

Non-Fiction Read: Day Trading for a Living

Good Advice

All sound advice but need the eBook to follow along with.

I’m a complete newbie to the whole stock market thing so I need the visual aides. If you are already familiar with trading and the terminology then you would be able to put this information to use more immediately.

Anthony Pica did great at the narrative. He was very clear and precise as well as having a pleasant voice to absorb the info.

I plan to re-listen to this with the eBook and update my review afterward.
