What Lies Beneath is #01 of 09 in the Enigma Series by Ditter Kellen. All 9 are currently published with 05 of them being in audio. The author plans for the other 4 to be in audio by the end of the year. She also plans many more after #09 at this time. Which excites me to no end!

These are connected by characters so I recommend reading the books in order. It is more enjoyable that way, but could be taken as standalones if you absolutely insist. There would be spoilers for the earlier ones if you start in the middle.

Bracadyte Prince, Hauke ❤ Doctor Abbigail Sutherland

“Enigma,” he finished for her.

 

Abbie

Doctor Abbigail Sutherland knows her dad is up to something and follows him to work to find that the answer is more than she could of imaged. A human-like specimen is in the lab, waiting to be retrieved by the military. Abbie feels drawn to this creature but cannot fathom why. He seems familiar for some reason.

Enigma

Hauke

Hauke is a type of alien merman, for lack of a better word. The last thing he remembers is searching for his sister and brothers in arms after an explosion. He wakes in the lab to the sounds of Abbie’s voice and mentally links with her and shares the memories of their past encounter. After an infusion of human blood, Hauke is miraculously back from the dead just in time for all hell to break loose.

 

He backed her toward the unmade bed situated against the side wall. “I need to love you now, sweet Abbie. All of you.”

The pair turn to Abbie’s uncle for protection. Uncle Tony is an ex-CIA operative who is a ghost. Seriously, he basically never existed due to his past government relations. With Tony’s help, they manage to get Hauke home under the sea. Take note of Uncle Tony, because you will see him again!

“Te amo’?” she questioned through their link.
“It means I love you.”

Of course it’s not going to be that easy!

There is a lot of action to be had, as well as more characters to meet and fall in love with. The overall story Arc of the Bracadytes and the infection will continue throughout the whole series.

Ditter Kellen weaves mythology into a uniquely beautiful story that is the world of the Bracadytes. The characters are fictional but will illicit real emotions. You will want to rise up on their behalf to protect them from the human ignorance that threatens their well-being.

The Enigma series has quickly become one of my favorites! I can’t wait to listen to the next as I devour this series like candy. I want to know how every character’s story plays out!

I can’t really comment more without spoiling something. And trust me, there are things I want to say about some of the people I want to stab in the face, lol, but I will have to make this series a part of the Read Along With Me titles, so look for it over there hopefully soon.

This is my fourth listen by Johnny Mack, and I’m still loving it! His performance of both male and female character works. If I had to nit pick, the only thing I could say is sometimes the transitioning between narration and Hauke’s voice is not always smooth, which is not that big of a deal, being that it is a transition of Hauke’s thoughts/POV to Hauke speaking, so its all still Hauke. 🙂

Who Else Has Their Tickets?

Bought my tickets yesterday, right after the new trailer played across the nation! Got mine at a Cinemark Theater that has reserved recliner seating! It doesn’t cost more for them either! It’s the best way to see a movie in a theater. Plenty of room and the reclining angel rocks!

Warning
Forgetting can make you look silly!

Don’t forget your bag. That you sat on the floor after you reclined. And then ask your party what are you doing wrong as you exclaim “my chair is broken” because it won’t go back to its upright position. To which your husband reaches under your chair and pulls said bag out. 🙂

This is my own opinion. I’m not paid in any way. The seats just rock! If you are going to pay over ten dollars a person to see a movie and that’s not including that bag of popcorn and a drink you also pick up, you might as well be comfortable!

Plus its reserved seating, so you don’t have to get there many hours early to get a good seat!

If you are not the heir or the spare, then what are you?

 

Sheikh Ahmed Al-Qasimi is the baby of the family. He feels overlooked and under-used in his family. He is never given anything of importance to oversee, only frivolous things that his father or brothers don’t want to waste their time on. It’s getting old and boring and he longs for something more. When Ahmed spots a stunning green eyed brunette member of the catering staff, he knows he definitely wants more of her!

So the hunt begins!


Run, little rabbit, run!

With Melanie, her career comes first, past failures be damned! Establishing her catering business is her goal as well as where she puts all of her time and money. She meets the sexy Ahmed one evening during an event she is catering while both of them are attempting to find a private moment to breathe. Melanie is as taken with Ahmed as he is with her, but there is not room for a man in her life, or even a day off. Food seems to be Melanie week point, as she is eventually coaxed into a midnight meal at a place that is authentically local. His treat, of course!

(Hey, don’t judge! That’s how I met my husband, “free food and beer!”)


During their late night rendezvous, Ahmed confesses he has not had the pleasure of truly seeing New York and Melanie agrees to a weekend of helping to rectify the injustice. A no strings attached Cinderella story that ends at midnight on the second day. And it does, but their time together leaves lasting impressions on the pair in more ways than one. Melanie doesn’t want to derail her plans with the complication of a relationship and tries to avoid Ahmed, but he has decided he wants his little American and is going to do whatever it takes to get her back into his life.
And his bed!

 

Of course it’s not going to be that easy!

Ahmed’s father is up to his old tricks with unwelcomed surprises. There is a mystery man offering Melanie a large sum of money out of nowhere. There are more secret weddings, babies, and of course HOT hanky panky!

You will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of story that is packed into this 3 hour audiobook. Overall this is a well plotted sexy little story!

This is my second listen by Nicholas Thurkettle, and I’m still in love! He humanizes all of the characters, no matter the gender or age. He uses a slight accent for Khalid and his family that sounds like it could be the way the characters would really talk and not a gimmicky accent that is often done for people in that area of the world.

Sheikh Khalid Al-Qasimi ❤ Journalist Casey Connolly

 

The story opens at the altar of all things. Sheikh Khalid Al-Qasimi is getting married, and not to the heroine of the story. Not quite what you were expecting huh? It’s a forced/arranged wedding that neither of the participants want, but it is tradition. The marriage is a punishment in Khalid’s eyes, handed down by his father who is tired of his sons making less than honorable headlines, and kids today complain about losing cell phone privileges. Really puts thing in perspective.

Enter Casey Connolly, a journalist out for a story on arrange marriages that will make front page and forward her path to a Pulitzer. She’s a woman on a mission! Her outbursts disrupts the wedding, causes the bride to call it off, muddies the water for all other present, and lands Casey in the palace prison. So not quite how she thought it was going to play out.

While pacing her cell, Casey receives a visitor with an offer she can’t refuse! Khalid wants to thwart his father’s plans for him to marry and sees a way out in the journalist. Casey needs the interview to headline her report to get her front page across the nation. Seems like a win-win for both of them, so what could possibly go wrong?
Always EVERYTHING when you say that!

This is more of a Novella size at barely 3 hours, but Casey and Khalid have enough time to do some soul searching and discover some deeper part of themselves. Plus have some sexy times too! Overall a sweet and sexy little story!

Review: Apprentice (Wanderers Series #2)

Apprentice is #02 of 05 in the Wanderers Series by Richard A Bamberg. There are currently 03 published with 02 being in audio. The author plans for 2 more bringing the total for the series to 05.

Johnny Mack continues to narrate the series, and is also slated to narrate the future titles.

This is a continuing main character story-line so even though it is not quite a cliffhanger at the end, there is also no HEA either.

I would suggest reading these in order!

As with the first one, Rafe manages to find his way into bed with multiple women, and now he has a female partner who is just as bad as he is, so yes, there is sex. You have been warned!

Trigger Warnings
Both of our wanders are veterans, and “chosen” from familiar battles. They have memories played out on the page with Rafe’s going back to Vietnam.

If you have not read/listened to book 01 in this series, some of this review might be spoilery for you.

Part 2 picks up not long after part 01. Rafe is getting an apprentice! Although he knows what it takes to join the Wanderer club, he still isn’t expecting the condition in which he finds his new trainee. The fact that his new apprentice is a woman is one for the record books. Allegedly, there has never been a female wanderer, but part of me feels like we will find out that is wrong.

“My name is Raphael Semmes, my friends call me Rafe. You and I are going to travel roads few people ever experience.”

The world building continues with more glimpses into other dimensions and the creatures they contain. Norn Fate Verðandi makes another appearance, for what I feel like is too little, too late. Seriously, that chick really sucks! We also get to meet another Godly being, to which I am not fully sure of his intentions. But given who it is, that is to be expected.

Loki grinned and for the first time I saw his legends appear in his features. “We wager loyalties, territory, and lives. For, in the long run, what else is there?”

Rowle is not seen in person this book, but that doesn’t mean his presence isn’t felt. He is busy spreading rumors and instigating havoc throughout the realms which puts a chink in Rafe’s training plans. On a positive, I don’t think Rowle knows about the new apprentice. Yet!

Through Tess we get to learn more about the life and times of what it is to be a Wanderer. We also get backstory clips from Rafe’s short time with his mentor Walt. It is sad and a bit alarming how much Rafe doesn’t really know.

Ragnarök would open the gates between Earth and the dimensions that held the old gods and all manner of mythological creatures.

There are twists and turns that take a toll. Hind sight is 20/20 and we do the best we can at the time, but it still cuts deep when you learn that you could of done it differently.

I can’t really comment more without spoiling something. And trust me, there are things I want to say about some of his regrets, but I will have to make this series a part of the Read Along With Me titles, so look for it over there hopefully soon.

He can also manage to set apart all the other voices to create separate characters that are each their own person. It’s easy to get lost in the wonderful world created by Richard when Mr. Mack is telling you the story!
